Travel advisory in effect for 'significant snowfall'

Environment Canada is warning drivers ahead of strong winds and heavy snow on Thursday.

A Winter Weather Travel Advisory was put into effect for London and Eastern Middlesex County, as well as Oxford and Brant Counties on Wednesday evening.

The weather agency expects heavy snow to begin Thursday morning before transitioning into rain or a rain-snow mix in the afternoon as temperatures rise. Strong westerly winds gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour are also expected Thursday evening.

The area could see about 5 centimetres of snow accumulate.

"Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather," Environment Canada said. "Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas."
