Knife-wielding man tasered by St. Thomas police

Charges have been laid after a man armed with a knife ended up being tasered by police in St. Thomas.

Police were called about the man, who was standing in the middle of a road in the south end of the city, on Sunday.

Officers arrived on scene at which point the man allegedly moved toward them in an "aggressive manner." One of the officers fired his taser at the armed man after which the man was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

The man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

He is now charged with four offences including assaulting a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and causing a disturbance.
