Driver who nearly hit police cruiser allegedly over 4 times drinking limit

A man is facing impaired driving charges after nearly crashing his vehicle into an Aylmer police cruiser.

The officer was on patrol on Spruce Street when a westbound vehicle crossed over the centre line and into oncoming traffic shortly after 12 a.m. on Monday. The officer had to swerve to avoid crashing into the vehicle, police said.

Following the near miss, the vehicle was stopped by police and the driver arrested.

Sobriety tests administered after the arrest allegedly showed the driver had more than four times the legal limit of alcohol in their system.

A 34-year-old Tillsonburg man is charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol content in excess of 80 milligrams. He has been released from custody with a future court date. His vehicle has also been temporarily impounded and licence suspended.
