Man wanted in London strip club sex assault, shooting arrested

A man who has been wanted for more than six months in a sexual assault and shooting at a downtown London strip club has been arrested.

London police confirmed on Tuesday that 41-year-old Kwabena Andrew Anhwere of London was taken into custody on November 16. He was tracked down in Mississauga by the Repeat Offender and Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Unit.

Police had been looking for Anhwere in relation to the April 29 incident at Solid Gold strip club on Dundas Street.

Witnesses at the establishment reported that around 12:50 a.m. on that date, they saw a man with a handgun. The man is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman before he was thrown out by security. After being ejected from the club, the man pulled out the handgun and fired at the building, hitting the door, police said.

No one was physically hurt during the ordeal.

Police used video surveillance and witness descriptions to identify a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Anhwere in the days that followed. He was wanted for sexual assault, assault, discharging a firearm with intent to wound/endanger life or prevent arrest, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, and four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

At the time, police warned the 41-year-old could be armed and dangerous.

Anhwere is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges against him on January 10, police said.
