6 arrested after weapons call causes school lockdown in Woodstock

A report of a youth with a suspected firearm led to a Woodstock high school being put into lockdown on Tuesday.

According to the Woodstock Police Service, the report of an armed youth in the area of College Avenue Secondary School came in around 12:20 p.m. Police say the school was put into lockdown, while neighbouring elementary school Oliver Stephens Public School was placed in Hold and Secure mode.

"Woodstock Police Service Uniformed Patrol and members of our Emergency Response arrested five youth on sight, while one youth was arrested at another location," police said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.

Woodstock police, along with the London Police Service K-9 Unit, searched College Avenue Secondary School for weapons, but did not find any.

No injuries were reported, and the lockdown was later lifted, allowing students to go home.

Police are still investigating and no charges have been laid.
