Hydro outages planned as beer tanks move through London

Residents in parts of London will experience sporadic power outages as crews move an oversize load of beer tanks through the area.

The tanks are being delivered from the harbour in Sarnia to the Labatt brewery in London. The slow-moving trucks carrying the tanks left Sarnia on Monday and are expected to reach London on Tuesday afternoon.

"Given the size of the vessel, crews will be hoisting or cutting and reconnecting distribution lines along the route, resulting in short power outages for customers in vicinity of the route," a joint statement from London Hydro, Hydro One, and Bluewater Hydro said.

Between Tuesday at noon and 11 p.m. Wednesday, outages are expected along Fanshawe Park Road West, Fanshawe Park Road East, Stoneybrook Crescent, Highbury Avenue North, Hamilton Road, and Horton Street.

Motorists are advised to expect delays on those roads.

"People driving are advised to expect delays and use alternative routes when possible as this massive load, which measures 33.53 metres in length and 6.62 metres wide, will likely occupy two lanes of traffic while travelling at reduced speeds through these areas," a statement from the City of London said.

Hydro officials say that, given the nature of the move, the outage start and end times below are estimates and vary "based on the customers’ location and the speed of travel."

Affected London Hydro customers have been notified by letter and can visit London Hydro’s outage map or call 519-661-5503 for more information.
