A London man and woman have been charged after police responded to a break, enter and robbery in the city's old south.

At about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, entered a home in the area of McClary Avenue and High Street through an unlocked door, police said.

According to police, once they were inside the suspects assaulted a man with a bat, stole his personal property, and ran.

Video surveillance footage was used to identify the suspects.

Several officers including members of the London Police Service Canine Unit investigated the scene before the suspects were located a short distance away. A woman was found to possess the victim's property.

Police arrested a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both of London, and jointly charged them with armed robbery and breaking and entering to commit robbery.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedic services and was later released.
