Someone enjoyed the warm greeting on Port Stanley's welcome sign so much... they stole it.
Elgin OPP were called about the theft of the lakeside village's entrance sign on Sunset Avenue in Central Elgin just before 2 p.m. on July 11.
Officers determined thieves used a chainsaw to cut down the supports of the municipal sign before hauling it away.
"The Village of Port Stanley" sign, which greets visitors and locals with the slogan "come for the shore - stay to explore", is valued at $8,000.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
