Early morning stabbing in Woodstock leads to arrest

Woodstock police are investigating an early morning stabbing that left a victim in critical condition on Wednesday.

According to police, officers responded to the incident at around 4 a.m. in the area of Finke Street and Main Street. When police arrived, they found an individual suffering from a stab wound.

The victim was then taken to hospital with serious injuries, where they remain as of Wednesday afternoon in life-threatening condition.

A heavy police presence was seen in the area of Henry Street and Butler Street through most of Wednesday morning.

Police have since located and arrested the accused, identified as 53-year-old Michael John Simons of Woodstock. He faces charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The investigation remains ongoing.
