Pedestrian seriously hurt in overnight hit-and-run

The suspected driver in a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with serious injuries in east London appears to have had a change of heart.

Emergency crews were called after a man walking in the area of Churchill Street and Clarke Road was hit around 3:20 a.m. on Monday. He was taken to hospital by paramedics with injuries described as serious.

The driver of the vehicle involved initially took off from the scene. However, 40 minutes later, that person returned, London police said.

The police traffic management unit is continuing to investigate the incident.

Charges have yet to be laid.
