Student online self-harm threat investigated by police

St. Thomas police are probing an anonymous online threat to cause self-harm at a local high school.

The threat was posted to an unnamed social media platform in an online forum designed for high school students, police said.

"The conditional threat of self-harm was to be carried out at a local high school if bullying behaviours continued," police said. "The poster also indicated that their parent was a police officer."

Many people began voicing concern for the individual as a screenshot of the post made the rounds online throughout the day Monday.

Detectives in the criminal investigations unit have been working with officials at St Joseph’s High School to ensure the wellness of the individual and the school community.

There is no immediate danger to public safety or the safety of the students at the school, police added.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-631-1224.
