Police in the Brantford area have set up a tip line to help in their investigation of a former residential school where former students have alleged both physical and sexual abuse.
The Six Nations Police Service, Brantford police, and the OPP have launched the toll-free line as they look into possible deaths at the Mohawk Institute, a residential school that closed in 1970.
"Investigators want to hear from survivors of the Mohawk Institute, who have any information or witnessed any criminal acts that could have led to any deaths of children at the facility," a statement from police said. "Investigators are also interested in information about any missing children that attended the Mohawk Institute."
In the wake of the discovery of unmarked graves at a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C., a request was made in July 2021 to search the grounds of the Mohawk Institute and for an investigation into allegations of the abuse of students at the school.
The tip line (1-888-523-3310) will be staffed 12 hours per day with call backs coming within 24 hours, police said.
