Two Londoners charged in theft of exotic birds

Nearly a month after $16,000 worth of exotic birds were stolen from a rural property in North Middlesex, two London men have been charged in the theft.

It was early on January 18 when the birds were snatched from the property on Egremont Drive.

Middlesex OPP were called and began an investigation that led them to a home in London on February 1. The OPP street crime and emergency response team searched the home, finding an unspecified number of birds.

The feathered creatures have since been returned to their owner.

On Friday, police announced two London men, aged 23 and 21, have been charged in the theft. The two men are each charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and trafficking property obtained by crime.

The men have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in court on March 22.
