Dog stolen along with truck found safe

A dog that was in the back seat of a pickup truck that was stolen from a St. Thomas daycare has been reunited with its owners.

The truck was left running while the driver dropped a toddler off at the daycare on Burwell Road around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday. It was at this time, a man pulled into the same parking lot, abandoned an orange Pontiac, and jumped into the nearby truck, speeding away with the dog in the back seat, St. Thomas police said.

The orange vehicle had been reported stolen from London.

Roughly an hour later, the pickup was found in London and the dog returned to its owner unharmed.

The vehicle thief is described as a man with a short, thin build. He was wearing a black winter jacket with fur lining around the hood.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-631-1224 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
