The Middlesex London Health Unit says a man in his 90s has passed away from COVID-19.
The man's death was reported Thursday, along with 85 new cases of the virus. There have now been 257 deaths associated with COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County since the start of the pandemic.
The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 15,638. The number of active cases climbed to 550 from 511. On November 16, there were 108 active cases in the community.
The London Health Sciences Centre says it is caring for 14 COVID-19 patients, an increase of one from Wednesday.
The health unit says there are currently outbreaks at 15 schools in London and Middlesex County. The latest to be added to the list is École élémentaire catholique Frère André. Outbreaks at Mountsfield Public School and St. Marys Choir and Orchestra Catholic School were declared over.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Oxford and Elgin counties, reported 46 new cases Wednesday. That brings the total since the start of the pandemic to 5,800. Currently, there are 208 active cases.
Across Ontario, 2,421 new cases and nine deaths on Thursday. The 7-day average of new cases is now 1,676 per day, up from 1,055 one week ago.
Health Minister Christine Elliott said there are 328 people with COVID-19 in hospital. Of those, 165 are in intensive care.
