Men allegedly used megaphone to berate Church of God congregation

Two men got off with a warning after congregants of the Church of God in Aylmer were verbally attacked during Sunday services.

Aylmer police were called to the controversial church on John Street North around 11:50 a.m. on Sunday.

"Officers located a black vehicle and two males using a megaphone to berate the members of the church," police said.

A 33-year-old man from Val Gagne, Ontario and a 24-year-old man from Hamilton were spoken to by officers and issued a warning about causing a disturbance.

The Church of God gained notoriety during the global pandemic for repeatedly defying provincial COVID-19 public health restrictions by hosting large gatherings. The church corporation and its pastor, Henry Hildebrandt, were hit with multiple fines and the church's exterior doors were temporarily locked by court order.
