Officials with the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) say they learned of four new positive COVID-19 cases on Monday, three of which are linked to a growing outbreak.
The school board confirmed the latest cases within two London public elementary schools late Monday night. One case at Clara Brenton and three more at Lord Elgin, which now has a total of nine active cases.
Both schools will remain open on Tuesday. Only those who are suspected to have been in close contact with the affected individuals will be alerted by the school board and asked to self-isolate for 10 days.
"Thames Valley wishes to assure the community that all staff, parents and guardians of the school communities were immediately notified," a statement from the school board read. "Health units investigate cases to identify close contacts and follow up directly to provide specific testing advice."
The TVDSB has 30 active COVID-19 cases within 21 London-area schools. Positive cases at schools do not mean the individual was exposed to the virus while at school and it's possible they may have contracted from elsewhere in the community the board said.
All confirmed positive and active cases are tracked on the school board's website.
