Body of missing swimmer found

Provincial police in Elgin County say the body of a missing swimmer has been found on the shore of Lake Erie.

Crews had been searching for the swimmer since Saturday, and made the discovery on Monday around 13 kilometres east of Port Burwell Provincial Park.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, two swimmers were in the lake on Saturday afternoon when they got into trouble. Two other people went into the water to try to help, but they also struggled in the water. A Good Samaritan saw what was happening and threw a life-saving ring into the water, ultimately saving three of the swimmers. However, the fourth swimmer disappeared under the water.

The deceased swimmer has been identified as 25-year-old Daniel Sosa-Zerebrecka of St. Catherines.

Police say a post mortem was to be conducted Tuesday.
