Knife wielding man accused of assaulting cop

A man is facing charges after police allege he assaulted an officer after an incident in downtown London.

According to London police, officers were called to the area of Oxford and Wellington Streets around 12:11 p.m. Sunday about a man with a knife who had yelled at and lunged at a person in a vehicle.

Police found the man, who they say was uncooperative and refusing police commands.

"The male threw an object at one of the police officers, nearly striking them,' police said. "Police were eventually able to take physical control of the male and arrest him for several Criminal Code Offences. A knife was located on the male."

The man was taken to police headquarters, where it is alleged he assaulted an officer. Police say the officer wasn't injured.

A 40-year-old man is charged with assaulting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, assault with a weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.
