London man suffers severe injuries in disturbing arson incident

Police say a man was sent to hospital after he was allegedly set on fire intentionally in southeast London on Saturday.

Officers say they responded to the area of Thompson Road and Jaqueline Street east of Adelaide Street at around 5:15 p.m. for an altercation between several people.

Police arrived and located a male victim who was on fire. Officers used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out and the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A London man has been arrested and police say there is no threat to public safety.

No other details on the man's condition have been provided.

A heavy police presence is to be expected in the area. The public is asked to avoid the scene while officers continue to investigate.
