Man charged after $70K stolen from St. Thomas service club

Charges have been laid against a 73-year-old Central Elgin man after thousands of dollars were stolen from the service club where he was an executive member.

St. Thomas police began investigating after other members of the unnamed city service club reported unusual activity relating to its finances.

Investigators found close to $70,000 that was to be donated to various community groups had been rerouted to a personal bank account.

Police alleged the bank account belongs to one of the service club's executive members.

He is now charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count of forgery.
