London police say they laid dozens of charges under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) in a blitz aimed at street racers and vehicles with loud exhaust systems.
According to the London Police Service, officers with its Traffic Management Unit stopped several vehicles between Wednesday, April 21 and Sunday, May 2 in an effort to crack down on speeding and "modified or excessively loud exhaust systems."
Police say the initiative led to 115 HTA charges for having no muffler or an improper muffler, seven charges of unneccessary noise, 103 speeding charges, and eight stunt driving charges.
There were also 35 charges of causing noice likely to disturb, under the City of London's Nuisance Bylaw.
"Members of the London Police Service encourage drivers to slow down, and vehicle owners to repair modified exhaust systems and avoid using devices to alter and/or increase the sound of their vehicles," police said in a statement released Thursday.
