Two-vehicle crash injures one after driver flees from police

The province's police watchdog is now investigating after a driver fled from officers in Strathroy-Caradoc, resulting in a two-vehicle crash that sent one person to hospital.

The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service said on Wednesday at around 9:30 a.m., officers attempted to stop an Audi S4 for a Highway Traffic Act offence but the driver took off in an effort to evade police. However, the driver collided with a Toyota Corolla at Longwoods Road and Christina Road and then ran from the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 59-year-old woman, had to be extricated by the Strathroy-Caradoc fire department before being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Longwoods Road near Christina Road was closed for several hours while police conducted an investigation. The road was reopened around 7 p.m.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified of the incident and is now investigating. The SIU investigates incidents involving the police that have resulted in serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault.
