Man charged after hitting store, pedestrian with vehicle

A London man faces charges including impaired driving after allegedly ramming his vehicle into the front of a store and hitting a person in the parking lot.

According to London police, around 1 a.m. Wednesday a man got into an argument with an employee at a variety store at 109 Rectory Street. The man then left the store, got into a vehicle in the parking lot and drove it into the front entrance.

"The suspect reversed his vehicle, and drove into the store a second time," police said Wednesday. "While in the parking lot, a citizen was struck by the vehicle, sustaining minor injuries. The vehicle left the scene and police were contacted."

Police say the man returned to the scene and assaulted the man who had been hit by the vehicle in the parking lot.

A suspect was later arrested. The victim of the assault did not want to pursue charges, according to police.

A 37-year-old London man is charged with impaired driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and dangerous driving.

Damage to the store is estimated at $30,000.
