Woodstock police searching for arson suspect

Police in Woodstock are hoping the public can help them identify a man wanted in connection with a suspected arson over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to the area of Bay and Peel streets around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday after heavy smoke was seen coming from a building. Crews were able to quickly douse the flames.

A damage estimate has not been provided.

Following an investigation, the fire was deemed suspicious in nature.

Police are now searching for a suspect described as a male, Caucasian, who is believed to be in either his 30s or 40s. He was wearing glasses, blue jean shorts, a dark shirt, a hat that is dark on the front and white on the back, with grey shoes and white socks.

Surveillance images of the suspect were released to the public on Tuesday.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call police at 519-537-2323 or Oxford Crime Stoppers at 519-421- TIPS (8477).
