Impaired driving charges laid after crash on 401

A 30-year-old Hamilton man is facing impaired driving charges after a car rear-ended a van on Highway 401 east of London.

The vehicles were in the westbound lanes of the highway in South-West Oxford Township when the car hit the back of the van around 4 a.m. on Sunday. The force of the crash sent the van into the median.

The van driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The person behind the wheel of the car got out of the vehicle and walked away from the scene of the crash. Police arrested the suspected driver nearby.

Sean McAlpine of Hamilton is charged with operation while impaired, operation with blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, and failure to stop after an accident.
