Police are reminding caregivers to not leave children in a vehicle unattended after two infants were locked in a vehicle in Simcoe.
The Ontario Provincial Police said officers were called on Thursday at around 3:28 p.m., after a Good Samaritan found the two infants crying in the vehicle at a Head Street North address and called 911.
It was discovered after officers arrived that the children's mother had left them in the vehicle while she attended a nearby home. The mother had left the vehicle running when she left, however, the vehicle automatically shut off when the driver walked away from the car with the key fob.
"The OPP is reminding all parents and caregivers to take your children with you or leave an adult in the vehicle for supervision," said Inspector Joseph Varga, the Norfolk OPP detachment commander, in a news release. "Things have and can go wrong, so don't ever take that chance. So remember, 'without a doubt, take them out.'"
Both infants were taken to hospital for precautionary measures and the Children's Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk has been contacted regarding the incident.
