SIU called in after police cruiser crash

Ontario's police oversight agency is investigating after a woman was injured in a collision with a London police cruiser.

According to the London Police Service, one of its officers was driving a marked cruiser in the area of Adelaide Street North and Nelson Street around 6:40 p.m. Thursday when the cruiser was involved in a collision.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Because the civilian driver was injuried, the Special Investigations Unit has been called in to examine the incident. The SIU investigates all reports involving police in which there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
