Human remains found in southeast London have been identified as those of a missing Oxford County man, who police say was murdered.
London police announced on Wednesday that a post-mortem examination conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto determined that the remains are those of Grant Edward Norton, 59, of Ingersoll. Norton was reported missing by a family member on July 12, 2020. The initial missing person report was made to Waterloo Regional Police, but London police became involved in the investigation when it was confirmed that Norton had been seen in London.
His remains were found on Sunday, July 19 in an area near Jacqueline Street and Ada Street. The autopsy led the West Region Coroner to determine that Norton was the victim of a homicide.
"It is believed that Mr. Norton died in London, therefore the London Police Service has assumed carriage of all aspects of the investigation, including the circumstances which led to him going missing earlier this month," police said in a news release issued Wednesday. "The investigation has led to a residence at 20 Adelaide Street South, where a search and forensic examination are underway."
