Man charged with assaulting girlfriend, killing her guinea pig

Charges have been laid against a 37-year-old St. Thomas man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and killing her pet guinea pig.

St. Thomas police were called Sunday afternoon after a 37-year-old woman was attacked, her pig killed, and property damaged.

Officers arrested the woman's partner in connection with the incident.

He is now charged with assault, killing an animal, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and three counts of breaching release conditions.

The man was held in police custody ahead of a court appearance.
