Arson charge laid after Frances Street fire

A London man is now accused of setting the fire that did $400,000 in damage to a house on Frances Street.

Fire crews were called to a home on Frances Street near Egerton Street around 9:45 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, smoke was pouring from the home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, an investigation determined the fire had been intentionally set.

Police took a man into custody at the scene. Randy Edward Marchant, 60, of London is now charged with arson causing damage to own property.

He is to appear in court Friday.
