Wet start to the weekend

Depending on where you live in southwestern Ontario you could be in for a sopping wet weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for St. Thomas, Aylmer, eastern Elgin County, and Oxford County. According to the national weather agency, 15 to 25 millimetres of rain is expected to fall across the area beginning late Friday afternoon. The rain will continue into Saturday morning before changing to snow in the afternoon.

"The frozen ground and thin snowpack will have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall," Environment Canada said in its statement. "Local ponding on streets is possible, especially where storm drains are covered in snow or ice."

Temperatures are expected to remain steady around 1 C Friday and Saturday.

While London and Middlesex County will see some wet weather, no significant rainfall is expected.
