London building owner slapped with $50K Fire Code fine

A building owner in London is facing a hefty fine after failing to comply with a fire safety inspection.

The owner of 19 Marmora Street was found guilty in Provincial Offences Court on Thursday and was hit with a $50,000 fine.

An inspection of the building by the London Fire Department in April of 2019 found multiple fire code violations and an order was issued by the fire inspector. The court heard that the building owner failed to submit proof of annual fire alarm testing, which was discovered during a follow-up inspection.

"We want to remind London building owners of the importance in maintaining fire and life safety equipment and that Fire Code Violations that put our community at risk will not be tolerated,” said Fire Chief Lori Hamer in a news release.

Any building owners with questions regarding their Fire Code responsibilities are asked to call the London Fire Prevention Division at 519-661-4565, email fireforms@london.ca or visit london.ca/fire.
