Man accused of assault with a baton

An Elgin County man is facing several charges after an alleged assault in St. Thomas.

According to police, two men got into an altercation in the city's north end around 10:30 a.m Friday. One of the men produced an expandable baton and began hitting the other man with it, resulting in minor injuries.

Police were called to the scene and were able to identify the suspect. The 44-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited device.  The male was released on conditions with a future court date.
