Driver OK after vehicle goes into ravine

One person had to be rescued after a vehicle veered off the road and into a ravine in southeast London.

London firefighters were called about the single-vehicle crash on Pond Mills Road near Pond View Road around 7:43 a.m. on Monday. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a tree before going part way down the ravine, according to Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger.

Initial reports indicated one person was trapped inside the vehicle.

"The patient wasn't requiring extrication which was great because that would have been difficult for us to deal with on a slope," said Mosburger. "We used our technical rescue team to guide the person who was needing assistance out of the vehicle to a level point."

The driver was not hurt in the crash, which Mosburger said was "very, very fortunate" given the distance the vehicle travelled off the road.
