Driver killed in crash with train identified

Provincial police have identified the 92-year-old woman killed Tuesday when her vehicle collided with a freight train in Zorra Township.

Helen Beggs of Zorra Township was heading north on 31st Line, just north of Highway 2 around 11:30 a.m. when her vehicle collided with a westbound train. Beggs, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The level crossing is equipped with flashing lights, but no safety arms.

Oxford OPP continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them. They are also reminding drivers to always obey railway signs and warning devices, such as lights, bells and gates and to be sure to look both ways and listen for approaching trains before crossing tracks.
