The provincial force's professional standards bureau launched its investigation into the unnamed officer following the alleged assault in Norfolk County on Tuesday. No other details about the incident have been released.
The officer was arrested on Thursday and is now charged with one count of assault.
He is scheduled to appear in Simcoe court in relation to the charge on April 2.
