Woman braves icy water to save dog

The threat of hypothermia wasn't enough to keep a woman from jumping into the frigid waters of Long Point Bay to save her dog.

The woman was at the Port Rowan Marina around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday when her furry friend fell into the water. She called 911 for help rescuing the dog. But before emergency crews could arrive, the woman jumped into the bay to pull the pooch out herself, according to Norfolk OPP.

Both the woman and the dog were checked out by paramedics and found to be unharmed by the plunge.

"The Norfolk County OPP is grateful that there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident and are urging all residents to be aware of the dangers associated to cold water," said Constable Ed Sanchuk in a statement.
