UPDATE: Downtown London street reopened after standoff

London police have resolved a situation that closed a busy downtown street Sunday afternoon.

Wellington Rd. between Dufferin St. and Queens Ave. was shut down for at least an hour. London police confirmed to BlackburnNewsLondon.com that the situation was caused by a man holding a weapon, though they did not specify what kind of a weapon it was.

Reports were initially phoned into police around 11:15 a.m., concerning a man with a weapon hanging around the loading dock of the London Life Building, in the heart of the downtown core. The man held officers at a short distance while he walked back and forth around the loading dock.

The man finally surrendered the weapon around 12:45 p.m. and was taken into custody.  Police tweeted soon after that Wellington Rd. had reopened.

Blackburn News will provide any additional details as they become available.
