Spooked Horse Takes Buggy Into Ditch

Middlesex OPP say there were no injuries when a horse-drawn buggy rolled into the ditch after the horse was spooked by a truck.

It happened last Friday on Elgin Rd. near Mossley Dr.

Police say around 5:45pm, emergency crews were sent to the scene of what was initially reported as a collision involving a horse-drawn buggy and a transport truck. When they arrived, they learned the horse had been spooked by a passing transport truck and went into the ditch, causing the buggy to roll.

There were ten people in the buggy at the time, but none were injured.

"The transport truck driver did not stop," police said in a statement. "It is likely that the commercial vehicle operator did not notice the event."

Police are reminding drivers to use extra caution when travelling on rural roads, especially when approaching horse-drawn buggies and farm equipment.
