Armed Robber Threatens Restaurant Staff

Charges of armed robbery and assault have been laid against a 27-year-old London man after staff at a downtown restaurant were threatened with a knife.

London police say a man who had been kicked out of a bar on Richmond St., near Central Ave. pulled a knife and began waving it at the establishment's bouncers around 11:45pm on Wednesday.

The man then walked into a nearby restaurant and demanded money. After threatening employees with the knife, he was handed an undisclosed amount of cash. Officers showed up as the man was trying to leave, so he went back inside the restaurant to try to hide.

Police say the man assaulted one of the employees. The employee was not hurt.

A 27-year-old London man was arrested. He is charged with armed robbery, assault with a weapon, assault, possession of a weapon, and breach of probation.

The man is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Thursday.
