OPP Mourn Death Of Police Dog

A four-legged, seven-year veteran of the OPP is being remembered as a great friend and partner.

Diesel, an 8-year-old German Sheppard, died at home from unforeseeable medical issues on Sunday, according to Middlesex OPP.

The police service dog joined the OPP K-9 unit in northern Ontario in May 2011. He transferred to southwestern Ontario with his handler, Constable Chris Halverson, in May 2016.

"Diesel was a great partner, friend, and representative of the OPP. He was always a hit at public displays and school presentations," said Halverson. "Diesel located a lot of good and bad people, all this for a bowl of food and a scratch behind the ear."

Halverson was by Diesel's side when he passed away.
