Motorcyclist Remembered As 'Gentle Giant'

A 46-year-old Norwich man has been identified as the motorcyclist killed in a two-vehicle crash in Oxford.

Daryl Dougherty was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck on Hwy. 59, south of Norwich around 2pm on Thursday. Dougherty was a longtime employee at Davidson's Sport and Lawn in Norwich, working for the motorcycle and recreational vehicle dealer for 18 years.

A statement on the company's Facebook page describes Dougherty as "a wonderful person, a gentle giant" with "an infectious laugh that everyone knew."

"Our thoughts are with Daryl's family. We will miss him dearly," the statement ends.

Oxford OPP say at the time of the crash the motorcycle was heading north on Hwy. 59, while the truck was going east on Maple Dell Rd.

Dougherty was pronounced dead in hospital. The driver of the pick-up was not hurt.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.
