Julius Nattinen sdcore twice for the Windsor Spitfires, but an overtime goal from London's Brandon Crawley gave the Knights a crucial 3-2 win at Budweiser Gardens Sunday night.
The win gives the Knights sole possession of the top spot in the OHL Midwest Division, with 35 points, one more than the Erie Otters who beat Sarnia Saturday. The Spitfires are tied for first in the West Division with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, with 31 points after the overtime loss gave them one point.
Nattinen helped set the early tone for the game for Windsor by scoring both their goals, the first at 14:45 in the first period, with Luke Boka and Logan Stanley assisting. The second goal came in the second period, on the power play at 13:29. Sean Day and Mikhail Sergachev assisted on that one.
After that, the Knights took control and did not relinquish it. London did not get on the board until 6:27 of the third period when Max Jones found the net, assisted by Cliff Pu and Janne Kuokkanen. Olli Juolevi tied the score later in the third period on a shot set up by Pu and Alex Formenton. It only took a minute and 53 seconds in the extra period for Crawley to find the net and score the overtime winner.
Jalen Chatfield of Windsor earned a game misconduct for a head butt. Tyler Parsons stopped 22 of the Spitfires' 24 shots on goal for the win in goal. Michael DiPietro stopped 24 of 27 for Windsor.
The Knights travel to Owen Sound to face the Attack on Wednesday night. The Spitfires will play the second game of a 13 game road trip on Thursday when they travel to Peterborough.
