Partnership To Provide Food Education To Students

More than 3,000 local students will learn more about the food system, thanks to a partnership involving the Western Fair District and Growing Chefs! Ontario.

It was announced Tuesday that the two groups are going to work together on what's being called, Western Fair District Presents: The School Food Education Project. The Western Fair District is providing $30,000 for the project.

“Western Fair District’s partnership with Growing Chefs! Ontario is a great vehicle to bring agri-food education into the classroom," says Mike Woods, COO of the Western Fair District. "With an innovative approach and proven impact Western Fair District is excited to join Growing Chefs! Ontario in the delivery of the School Food Education Project throughout the community in London and region.”

Growing Chefs! Ontario is a London-based charity which aims to promote healthy eating among children.

The partnership comes after the Middlesex-London Community Food Assessment pointed out a need for people in the area to have a better understanding of where their food comes from.

“We're beyond thrilled at this opportunity to partner with the Western Fair District," says Andrew Fleet, executive director of Growing Chefs! Ontairo. "They are an established leader in this sector and we believe that by working together, we can better serve the needs of the community.”

The partnership will officially kick off on Thursday, October 6 at the Covent Garden Outdoor Farmers’ Market.
