Windermere Bridge Re-opening

A bridge that has been closed to traffic since May is set to re-open.

The City of London announced Friday morning that the Windermere Bridge over Stoney Creek would re-open in the afternoon, eight weeks ahead of schedule.

The bridge was closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while it was undergoing repairs that included removal of expansion joints and the installation of new railings and guide rails.

Work began on the eastbound lane of the bridge April 26. During that time the westbound lane remained open to motorists. However, in early May, police said say eastbound motorists blatantly chose to disregard the closure and put all other road users and construction workers at an incredible risk.

The city decided at that time to close the bridge completely.

“We are pleased to be able to reopen Windermere Bridge ahead of schedule and thank Londoners for their patience during the closure,” says Edward Soldo, Director, Roads and Transportation.

There may still be occasional lane closures as work continues below the bridge. It's expected that work will be complete in a couple of weeks.
