Hot, Humid Weekend Ahead

With much of southern Ontario bracing for a hot and humid weekend, the country's weather agency is reminding people to stay hydrated and out of the sun.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for London-Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford-Brant, Huron-Perth, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton.

The statement comes as temperatures are expected to hit daily highs ranging from 28 C to 32 C. There will be little relief from the heat at night with overnight lows dipping no lower than 17 C.

The weather agency points out this is the first extremely warm and humid weather of the season which poses health risks for those not use to the heat. Seniors, infants and people with chronic illnesses are especially at risk. Weather officials are advising those venturing outdoors to drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty, and dress for the weather. They also suggest spending a few hours each day in a cool place.

A heat warning is not expected to be issued.
