Special Weather Statement Lifted

After a return to winter-like weather on the weekend, residents of the London area woke up to a snow-covered ground on Monday.

A Special Weather Statement was issued on Sunday, with forecasters calling for the possibility of heavy snow. While the snowfall amounts were not as high as predicted, the weather did cause some problems in the area. Provincial police closed Highbury Ave. between Medway Rd. and Ilderton Rd. for a few hours, as blowing snow caused reduced visibility and slippery road conditions. Emergency crews responded to several collisions around the London area. Fortunately, it doesn't appear any of them were serious.

The precipitation briefly transitioned into ice pellets early Monday morning, before returning to light snow. Environment Canada lifted the Special Weather Statement when the snow stopped falling.
