Big Boost For Christmas Kettles

A London couple is giving an extraordinary gift to the Salvation Army this Christmas.

Carl and Pat Churchill have agreed to match all donations made this weekend to the organization's Christmas kettle campaign. The pair will match donations, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.

“We are overwhelmed by the magnitude of this gift," says Perron Goodyear, Salvation Army spokesman. “The generosity of Londoners never ceases to amaze me.”

The donation is a major boost as the kettle campaign is in danger of falling short of its $500,00 goal.

As of Thursday, just over $340,000 had been donated through the 50 kettle locations throughout the city.

This is the second year in a row the Churchill family has offered to match kettle donations to the tune of $25,000.

The kettle campaign continues until Christmas Eve. Donations can be made in person, online at www.FilltheKettle.com, or by phone at 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769).
