Four decades of dedicated community service hasn't gone unnoticed for a London dentist.
Dr. Kenneth Wright was awarded the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award by the Honourable David Johnston at a ceremony held in Toronto on Tuesday.
Dr. Wright is the founder of the Dental Outreach Community Service Program at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
The program was launched in 2008 and provides free dental care to low-income families and individuals with no dental coverage.
Dr. Wright has been a long time supporter of parents of children with disabilities, a cause that is close to his heart. He has a daughter who was born with Down syndrome.
For over 40 years, Dr. Wright has also volunteered his time with the United Way, McCormick Home, the Scatcherd School, A Chair Affair, and Community Living London.
“My life has been enriched by the people with whom I have worked, and what I have learned about wonderful community organizations,” says Dr. Wright. “As dentists, we have had the advantage of a good education and the skills to help people.”
The Governor General's Caring Canadian Award recognizes Canadians who have made a significant, unpaid contribution to their community. It highlights the examples set by volunteers.
